Activities:

For nature lovers there are walks both on and around the farm that take you through plantations, wetlands and fynbos to beautiful viewpoints, with many birding opportunities en route. You can also amble over to the dam and drop a fishing line in the water in pursuit of bass, or take the rowboat out and enjoy a round of sundowners. The more active can take to the forest roads on mountain bikes and set about conquering the surrounding terrain.

There is another option for exploring the area that does not require either riding or walking - two characterful vehicles are available to take you on picnics, sightseeing, or sundowner outings - just discuss your desires with any member of our friendly staff and we will strive to meet your requirements.

Within easy driving distance of Forest Ferns is the magnificent Tsitsikamma National Park which is well worth a visit, as well as Storms River Village where you will find the exciting treetop canopy tours, and the Bloukrans Rive Bridge from which adrenalin seekers can throw themselves off in a 214 metre bungee jump.

The Dolphin Trail:

For those hikers who know the rigours of the Otter Trail, and for those who have never had the luck or the courage to hike it, why not take a well earned break and come and enjoy the unrivalled beauty and luxury of the Dolphin Trail? For two magical days you can now hike the magnificent Tsitsikamma Coast with no heavy backpack, and spend three nights in comfort at different accommodation venues!

This unique trail has been made possible by the formation of a partnership between the Tsitsikamma National Park and two private sector partners, namely Forest Ferns and Misty Mountain Reserve. The result is a hiking experience that will both challenge and pamper you. The trail covers a distance of 17 Km starting in the unrivalled beauty of the Tsitsikamma National Park at Storms River Mouth, and winds its way eastwards through natural fynbos and pristine indigenous forest, over rugged rocks at the waters edge, to end on the banks of the Sandrift River at The Fernery.

Bridge Walking Tours

BRIDGE WALKING TOURS: are also on offer at the Bloukrans Bridge for the non-jumpers. Come and experience this incredible engineering feat of the largest arch bridge in the world, which is also the highest bridge in Africa. A perfect way to watch the live “Bungy Show” up close and personal!

The Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour

The Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour© is a unique eco-wilderness adventure that takes place in the magnificent Tsitsikamma indigenous rainforest.
The first of its kind in Africa, the canopy tour involves traversing from one platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to 30 meters above the forest floor...
Most platforms are located in giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. The scenery and bird life is spectacular and professional guides provide interesting facts about the forest ecology during the 2½ to 3 hours
