Stellenbosch |
Hiking Trails |
The heart of South
Africa's wine industry, Stellenbosch is a place of great beauty
and culture that's steeped in South African tradition. The heart
of the town lies somewhere near the oak-lined Dorp Street. With
its venerable old buildings, this is the University's main
thoroughfare, where modern student life sits comfortably side by
side with our history and architectural heritage.
The University - Maties - has produced many of the country's great
sporting heroes, including more than 155 rugby Springboks, and
Stellenbosch offers almost every outdoor activity you could desire
- from world-class sports facilities (rugby, cricket and soccer
are national passions) to popular mountain bike routes and six
truly great golf courses.

Several Hiking
trails within the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve tempt the hiker: they
range from an easy 5,3 km scenic walk to the challenging 17.1 km
Panorama Trail and the 18 km Swartboskloof Trail. Visit Granny's
Forest at Helderberg Farm for easy walking - they also offer
various other trails and an overnight hut. The full-day Vineyard
Hiking Trail is best enjoyed in autumn or spring; it's 24 km long
that starts on the slopes of the Papegaaiberg, above the Oude
Libertas Centre and meanders through the forest plantations,
vineyards, olive groves and coastal renosterveld.
The Vineyard Hiking Trail meanders through the valleys and over
the slopes of vine - clad hills. Surrounded by the majestic
Stellenbosch Mountains, the Devon Valley is a rolling canvas ,
each season a portrait of impressionistic tones and hues. The
vintners apply their passionate artistry to the palette. The
result is undoubtedly one of South Africa's most scenic hiking
trails. |

Quad Rides |
Village Museum |
QuadRides started
out just as a dream…but not for long. Our company was the blessed
idea of two adventurous nature lovers – Francois Hanekom and
Alexander Smit. We started in September 2005 on Dellrust Wine Farm
between Stellenbosch and Somerset West.
QuadRides highly value eco-tourism and focus on the safe and
responsible use of quad bikes, while still presenting tours that
will give you an adrenaline rushing & unforgettable experience.
This is far from the conventional way of having fun, never mind
how and where you drive.
QuadRides make use of fully automatic Rustler 260cc quad bikes,
which can easy accommodate two adults at a time. We aim to give
you an unbeatable level of service, far beyond expectation
entertainment, adrenaline rushing adventurous fun and an
unforgettable experience. Bugs and dust are for free!

The Stellenbosch
Village Museum is a group of four carefully restored and furnished
buildings representing the major stylistic periods of the previous
three centuries. Here one can move through these time periods in a
matter of minutes, experiencing fascinating architecture, and
getting a glimpse of life in the early development of the Cape.
1. Schreuderhuis (ca. 1709)
A pioneer dwelling which survived the first great fire, and is
furnished to represent the period 1690 - 1720.
2. Blettermanhuis (ca. 1789)
A magnificent H-plan Cape house decorated with six gables, typical
of the period 1760 - 1790.
3. Grosvenor House (ca. 1803)
Outstanding example of a double-storeyed flat-roofed Cape house in
the neo-classical style, reflecting the period 1800 - 1830.
4. O.M. Berghhuis (ca. 1850)
A gabled dwelling like Blettermanhuis, which became a
double-storey in the late 19th century. The cluttered interior is
typical of the Victorian era between 1840 and 1870.
